Heel pain in an exceptionally common problem encountered by our Podiatrists. In fact a recent study showed that 4% of the population has heel pain at any time!, furthermore research estimates that approximately 40% of the population will experience “heel or arch pain” at some point in their lives!

Plantar Fasciitis, the clinical term for arch pain, on its own accounts for 8% of all running injuries. This is because our heel bone is normally our first point of contact with the ground when we walk or run, when we walk we put roughly 1.25 times our body weight through our heel bone (Calcaneus), when we run we this becomes an average of 2.75 times our body weight- no wonder we see it so often!!

Heel and/or arch pain is a very complex problem with many conditions affecting the area. Some common presentations include but are not limited to;
